BEFORE YOU LAUNCH

Start with one clear action.

Name the decision you want to influence and the office or organization responsible for it. A campaign about a local budget needs a different audience from a campaign about a federal bill. Write the request in one sentence before choosing the tool.

Use a petition when you want to gather a shared message for the organizer to deliver. Use representative outreach when you want supporters to contact an office themselves. For either approach, explain why the action matters and what you will do after the campaign’s next milestone.

Then check the practical details: available contacts and geographic coverage, your website’s embed permissions, your message, and the information supporters will provide. Preview the experience on a phone. For petitions, test email confirmation and prepare an export-and-delivery plan; for calls, read the script aloud and check the office contact.
