HELP & GETTING STARTED

From your first preview
to your first action.

Practical guides for getting District, Focus, and Rally onto your website.

01 · BEFORE YOU SUBSCRIBE

Make a preview first.

  1. Choose your tool. District finds representatives by location ($39/year). Focus connects officials with your campaign topic ($59/year). Rally gathers petition signatures ($59/year).
  2. Customize your draft. Match your colors and write your campaign’s message. District and Focus include your caller script. Rally needs your petition text, organizer name, and an HTTPS link to your organization’s privacy policy.
  3. Check the fit. Confirm your website allows embedded scripts. For District, arrange your own 5 Calls API key. For Focus, review the available contacts, their evidence, and your campaign’s geographic coverage in the builder.
  4. Subscribe and publish. After confirmed Stripe payment, sign in to your account, publish your draft, and copy its installation code. Rally also gives you a hosted petition URL.
Each annual plan is for one website. Rally’s website plan covers unlimited petitions on that site. A preview is free; publishing requires an active subscription.

02 · INSTALLATION

Copy, paste, publish.

Use the complete installation code from your paid, published campaign. Add it on the website address registered with your plan. Include both the widget container and its loading script, and avoid adding the same code twice.

WordPress
  1. Edit the page where your widget should appear and add a Custom HTML block (type /html in the block editor).
  2. Add your installation code using an editor or script insertion method that permits both HTML and JavaScript. WordPress may separate HTML and JavaScript into different panels; ask your site administrator to use the supported script field or script insertion tool.
  3. Update the page and check the published page as a visitor.

Some roles and hosted plans strip scripts or iframes. You’ll need permission to save scripts; an HTML block alone doesn’t guarantee that permission. WordPress Custom HTML guide ↗

Squarespace
  1. Use a plan that permits JavaScript or iframe embeds. Add a Code block to your page.
  2. Choose HTML, turn off Display Source, and paste your installation code.
  3. Save the page. Check it while logged out or in a private browser window; scripts can be disabled in the editor preview.

Webflow
  1. Add a Code Embed element at the position where you want the widget.
  2. Paste the complete installation code, then save and close the embed editor.
  3. Publish to your registered domain and check the public page. A placeholder in the Designer is normal for script-driven embeds.

Custom HTML website
  1. Open the page template or HTML file and place your full installation code inside the page body where the widget should appear.
  2. Publish your changes to the website address registered with your plan.
  3. Check the public page and the widget’s mobile layout. If your site uses a Content Security Policy, your developer may need to allow AdvocacyLift’s widget script and frame.
Wix or a platform that nests embeds in another iframe

Please check with us before subscribing. Some platforms place HTML embeds on a separate hosting origin. Our widgets restrict embedding to your registered website, so those nested frames may be blocked.

Wix separates visible HTML embeds from page-level custom code. We can help check the right integration for your site. Rally’s hosted petition page is also available for sharing. Wix custom code guide ↗

Platform settings and plan limits vary. These guides explain installation methods; they do not mean every plan or site configuration has been tested.

03 · DISTRICT

Bring your own 5 Calls key.

  1. Request an API key from hello@5calls.org, as described in the 5 Calls API documentation ↗.
  2. Open your District widget in the builder and enter the key in its API setup field.
  3. Save, then check a location your campaign serves before publishing.

The key is kept in the service’s private configuration. It is not included in your public embed code. Don’t paste it into a webpage or send it in a support email.

Focus and Rally do not require a 5 Calls key. District’s sample preview uses fixed Manhattan data; the sample does not prove your live API connection.

04 · YOUR SUBSCRIPTION

Manage your annual plan.

Open My account to find your tools. For District or Focus, select Edit widget & installation. In District, open the Publish step and use Manage billing. In Focus, use Manage subscription in the builder.

For Rally, choose My petitions from your account, then Manage billing on a petition’s card. These controls open Stripe’s billing portal, where you can update a payment method or cancel renewal.

Plans renew annually. Canceling renewal keeps access through the paid period. If a renewal is unsuccessful and the paid period expires, the paid widget stops working until payment is restored.

For Rally, expired plans stop accepting new signatures and confirmations. Existing confirmed signatures remain available for organizer export. Refund requests are reviewed under our Terms; contact us with your checkout email if you need help.

05 · RALLY

From signatures to delivery.

  1. A supporter signs. They provide their name, email, and ZIP if your campaign collects it. Campaign updates are optional and require separate consent.
  2. They confirm their email. They open the emailed link and press the confirmation button. The link expires after 24 hours. Pending signatures do not count or appear in the confirmed-signature export.
  3. You review and export. Sign in to your petitions dashboard. Use View confirmed signatures to review support, or download a CSV. The standard file includes name, confirmation date, and ZIP if collected. The separate contact export option also includes email and campaign-update consent.
  4. You deliver the petition. Email, print, or present the file to your selected decision-makers yourself. Rally sends signer confirmation emails; it does not send campaign emails to officials.

To remove a signature, find it under View confirmed signatures and select Remove signature. If a signer asks for removal, also review any copies you exported or shared. They should contact your organization using the privacy information on your petition.

You can close a campaign from the dashboard when it’s finished. You remain responsible for using supporter details and consent appropriately.

06 · NEED A HAND?

Check these first.

  • Nothing appears: check that your site permits scripts, your entire code was pasted, and your draft is published with an active paid plan. Look at the public page, not only the editor preview.
  • The embed is blocked: check the registered website address, including www versus the root domain. Contact us if your domain changed or your platform uses nested frames.
  • District has no results: check your private 5 Calls key and the location entered. ZIP codes can span congressional districts, and a match may use a nearby district. Verify the official’s district through an official source when precision matters.
  • Focus has limited contacts: try a more specific topic and review source evidence and coverage. Missing phone or email details are not filled with guessed data.
  • A Rally signature is missing: it counts only after email confirmation. Check spam folders, confirm within 24 hours, or return to the petition to request a new link if it expired.
Still stuck? Contact us with your website, product, and error wording. Please don’t send secret keys or signer lists.
